Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions finds adoptive homes for retired racing greyhounds in the Florida West Coast area from Ocala through Fort Myers. We have been selected as a responsible greyhound adoption partner of the National Greyhound Association and were named as the "2019 Best of Tampa" in the pet adoption service category. We are active in our local community and are members of the Carrollwood Area Business Association. We participate in many events throughout the year to raise awareness of the need for homes for greyhounds after their racing days are over. We raise funds to continue our work,educate the public about greyhounds as pets, provide medical care for greyhounds with special medical needs or significant injuries, and sponsor "hauls" to move greyhounds from Florida to non-racing states for adoption. We have volunteers who hold "Meet and Greet" events weekly where you can meet adoptable greyhounds in the Tampa Bay and Cape Coral/Fort Myers areas. All of our greyhounds are fostered in our homes prior to adoption or are specially trained through the greyhound training programs at prison facilities. This means that we have the opportunity to get to know our foster greyhounds and profile their personalities prior to adoption. To date, we have found adoptive homes for over 1,700 retired racers. We partner with Greyhound Advancement Center to have some of our greyhounds specially trained at prison facilities where they live with their inmate trainers and learn all their basic commands. Like all greyhounds, the prison trained greyhounds go on to be wonderful family pets, and many have become active in therapy and service work. Besides funds to take care of our foster greyhounds, our #1 need is families to foster the greyhounds from the time they come off the track until they are adopted, and help acclimate them to life in a home.
